Enrolling as a student at Kingston University

What is enrolment?

Enrolment is the process you need to complete in order to become an official Kingston University student. There are several steps to complete, which you can find more information on below.

Why enrol?

Completing your online enrolment is an essential part of coming to university. All universities are required to report on statutory information to the UK Government, so many sections include mandatory information. When the Government reports on this, the information is anonymised and does not include identifiable information.

Enrolling at the right time is very important as it gives you access to your:

  • Student loan – if you've been awarded a student loan, completing your enrolment will release your money three working days after we can see you have engaged with your Welcome and Induction Week activities.
  • Welcome to Kingston online module (part of your Welcome and Induction Week). This module will need to be completed by the end of Welcome and Induction Week.
  • Welcome activities – you'll be able to book to attend the activities you'd like to take part in (part of your Welcome and Induction Week). More information on Welcome and Induction Week is provided here.
  • Course teaching timetable – after completing your online enrolment you'll be able to see your individual teaching timetable for the first teaching block (which will go through to December) which will be published before Welcome and Induction Week.

How to enrol

Step 1 – Online enrolment

Online enrolment will open from Thursday 31 August. You'll receive an email from our admissions team requesting you to complete your online enrolment. Please complete this as soon as you can.

You'll complete your online enrolment on OSIS, our applicant and student portal.

You'll be asked to complete an online form to provide information including:

  • Your personal details, including your named emergency contact.
  • Your term time address. If you don't know your term time address because you'll be living in our Halls of Residence, please don't worry about completing this part. Your term time address will be auto-populated once your room has been allocated.
  • Disability declaration. This is so we can offer you the best support during your time at Kingston.
  • How you intend to pay your course fees (e.g. student loan).
  • Any additional qualifications you have, but haven't given to us, such as Functional Skills or a music qualification. We would particularly like you to upload any qualifications that carry additional UCAS points.

You'll also be asked to read and agree to:

  • Our student regulations. This is the contract you are entering into with the University and it covers our student code of conduct that all students are required to sign up to. These regulations explain things such as your commitment to paying fees, your right to cancel your place and the timeframe you would need to do this within.

Step 2 – Identity verification

After you've completed your online enrolment, a member of the enrolment team will check and verify your identity by checking your identity document against your uploaded ID card photo.

Once we've completed this, we'll confirm to you, by email, that your enrolment is complete. These emails will go  out from Monday 11 September.

If there are any problems with your online enrolment, we'll be in touch with you via email or phone to resolve this.

Acceptable forms of identity

UK and EU students can provide either:

One item from the following: passport; UK photographic driving licence; Citizen Card or other form of identity with the Proof of Age Standards Scheme (PASS) approved hologram; Kingston University ID Card; EU Identity Photographic Card.

Or:

Two items from the following (which collectively should contain your date of birth and photographic ID): birth certificate; UK bank card; National Insurance card; National Health Service card; EU medical card (EHIC); SLC final assessment form/schedule of payments; original qualification certificates; Inland Revenue photographic registration card; UK FE/HE photographic student ID card; staff photographic ID card; international photographic driving licence.

Non-UK/EU nationals – original proof of identity

You must provide the original valid passport that you may have uploaded to OSIS earlier (if the Home Office is holding this, an official Home Office letter may be acceptable instead).

Step 3 – Finance checks

During your online enrolment, you'll be asked to confirm how you intend to pay your tuition fees.

Before we can confirm you've completed your enrolment, the University will do a finance check and a member of the team will be in touch if there are any questions.

Step 4 – International and postgraduate student check-in

International students and some postgraduate students are required to attend a compulsory physical check-in appointment when they arrive on campus.

Once you have successfully completed online enrolment, you'll receive an email from our admissions team inviting you to book your check-in appointment.

Step 5 – ID card collection

Once you've completed your enrolment you'll receive an email informing you of when and where you can collect your official Kingston University student ID card.

Partner colleges

Find out how to enrol at a partner college

You'll be contacted separately by your partner institution to tell you how to complete their enrolment. This will include providing evidence of your identity directly to the partner institution, not Kingston University.

If you're going to be attending classes at a partner institution there may be other things you need to complete. The partner institution will be in touch with you directly about this.

If you are studying at one of the following colleges, your identity will be verified remotely by Kingston University staff and you will not be required to be on campus.

  • Brooklands College
  • Kingston College
  • NESCOT
  • Newham Training and Education Centre (NEWTEC)
  • Richmond Upon Thames College
  • Royal Holloway, University of London
  • South Thames College
  • West Thames College
  • Whitefield Schools and Centre.

You may also have to enrol with the college where you will be based. The college will contact you directly with more information if this applies to you.

If you are studying at one of the following colleges, you will need to have your identity verified by your partner college, which may be in person. The partner college will contact you with full details about this process.

  • Building Crafts College
  • KLM UK Engineering Ltd
  • Marshall Aerospace, Cambridge
  • Newcastle College.

How to log into OSIS

You should have received an email from us with your username (Kingston University ID) and password to log into our Online Student Information System (OSIS).

Log into OSIS If it's your first time you'll be prompted to change your temporary password (the one that we sent you) to a permanent one (that you'll find easier to remember). If you forget your OSIS password, you can reset your password online.

If you experience any problems with OSIS, please log an enquiry with the University's IT Service Desk, providing your name, Kingston University ID and information about the problem you are having. Or you can contact them (Monday to Friday 8.00am-6.30pm) via 020 8417 3355 or Live Chat.
