About

I have been a qualified Social Worker since 1984 and worked as a local authority social work practitioner or manager for 33 years, culminating in 12 years Safeguarding Adults service lead roles in two London boroughs. Since September 2017, I have completed regular Safeguarding Adults Reviews and I have Safeguarding Adults and MCA training contracts across local authority, hospital and care home settings. Since September 2018, I have also been employed as a Senior Lecturer in Social Work (0.5) at Kingston University. I have a keen interest in using experiential training and teaching methods, to improve practice learning. In my lecturer role, I also have responsibility as the BA Social Work final year lead, tutorial relationships, coordinating a Royal Literary Fund support to students on academic writing, coordinating the contribution of Teaching Consultants (professionals in practice) to teaching sessions and also contributing to inter-disciplinary learning with nursing students, and taking a lead role in Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) initiatives within the university (including a current visibility project).

Teaching and learning

1. Coordinate and deliver a wide range of teaching from professional and lived experience in classroom teaching in SW6002 and in SW5003 (adults), aligned to varied assessment and support approaches, which has contributed to an overall high level of student attainment. Have developed effective experiential learning in teaching and training. This contributes to students' life chances and impacts positively on the skills availability to the social work sector. Year lead for BA Social Work Level 6 students with very positive feedback on support provided, both in this and tutorial roles. Coordinating role for inclusion of Teaching Consultants (professionals in practice) in teaching sessions.

2. A commitment was maintained to inclusive teaching and support through ensuring that the classroom is a safe space for diversity, providing a varied range of assessment and learning approaches. Coordinating a Royal Literary Fund (RLF) service to support students with academic writing. A lead role in the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion initiatives at the university, including a current visibility  project. This contributes to the inclusive values of the social work sector. A

3. Confidence and consistency in marking has been consolidated and enhanced, as evidenced through module leaders feedback and both internal and external moderator comments.

4. Continuous professional development has been further enhanced, particularly through reading and through teaching on wider modules, expanding my subject areas covered. This contributes to the development of skills in the social work sector.
