I'm a qualified and registered social worker with extensive experience within a variety of private, voluntary and statutory sector organisations. I'm currently a senior Lecturer and Practice Education Lead (PEL) in the Department of Social Work. I have a number of published articles in the International Journal of Social Work and am co-author of a chapter in Skills for Social Work Practice– Developing Communication and Interviewing Skills (Davies, K.& Jones, R.(eds) 2016). This chapter outlines the module that I teach in getting students ready for their first placement and is an interactive experiential module - 'Top Tip' - have a read and you'll be prepared for the module (SW4001).
Specialist areas of interest include family therapy, young people, HIV / Aids, addictive behaviour, multi-professional working, motivational interviewing, and supervision. Raising the profile of dual diagnosis: mental health and substance misuse, leading a successful pilot project in Kingston and Richmond health and social care services was a pivotal point in my career.
I hold the Practice Teacher and Advanced Award in Social Work alongside an MA in Professional Education and Training in Human Services - my dissertation focused on the contribution of supervision to professional and organisational development. I'm the mentoring champion for the Department of Social Work and am a qualified Mindfulness Life Coach. I love photography as a hobby!
