Dr Lindsay Gillman

About

My professional life started in the NHS in 1986, as a student nurse at King's College Hospital. My early career focused accident and emergency nursing, after which I made the move to primary care and worked as a practice nurse prior to training to be a midwife in 1993. 

I have been a member of the Faculty since 2002, initially as an honorary lecturer whilst working clinically as a midwife, followed by posts as a Senior Lecturer and Principal Lecturer. My current role includes having responsibility for Teaching and Learning and the student experience in the School of Education, Midwifery and Social Work in addition to teaching on the BMid and MMid programmes and continuing professional development modules. 

I have held secondments to develop the pan London Midwifery Practice Assessnent Document (MPLPAD) and the Midwifery Ongoing Record of Achievement (MORA), now used to assess students midwives in practice by all universities across England and Northern Ireland.

My PhD research explored midwives' decision making in relation to perineal care in the second stage of labour. My current research interests include midwifery practice assessment, student preparation for assessment and perineal care in the second stage of labour.
