I qualified as a registered mental health nurse in 2011 after graduating from Kingston University with a BSc (Hon)Nursing. I joined the Faculty in November 2014 as a Senior Lecture in Mental Health Nursing. I began my career as a staff nurse in a female medium secure unit and then joined the Complex Needs Service as an Mentalization-based treatment (MBT)therapist working with service users with a diagnosis of personality disorders. I continue my clinical work as an honorary therapist with this particular service.
I developed an interest in working with service users with a diagnosis of personality disorder as a student nurse. I studied psychosocial interventions in 2012 which lead to an interest in promoting carer support for families of service users with a diagnosis of personality disorder and established and facilitated a successful family and friends group in my clinical area. I presented 'Improving communication and inclusion for families and carers of service users with a diagnosis of personality disorder' at the 3rd European Conference on Mental Health in Sep 2014 in Tallinn, Estonia and at the 'British and Irish Group for the Study of Personality Disorder' Conference March 2016, Isle of Man.
