I began my career in mental health care in 1992 working with people with complex needs at West Park Hospital in Surrey, going on to complete my mental health nursing registration in 1997 at St Georges Hospital London. My main clinical focus has been community based care principally with adults with severe and enduring conditions. My experience has been varied including group led therapy work services and adult community mental health nursing. During this time i developed a special interest in working with young people experiencing psychosis and their families and progressed to a clinical nurse specialist role in one of the first early intervention services in the United Kingdom and contributed service delivery and development as an early adopter site. A unique service at the time we were involved in informing Government policy on Early Intervention Service in the UK.Academically I achieved a BSc(Hons) in Psychosocial Interventions (PSI) and led projects on family work service development, dual diagnosis and cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) with psychosis interventions for young people. In 2003 I became a lecturer practitioner at St George's Hospital specializing in PSI education and course development. In 2007 I moved to higher education full-time at Kingston and St Georges working on a wide range of mental health subjects across the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes as well as inter-professionally. In 2011 I accepted a key development role in field leadership for the mental health undergraduate nursing programme as well as lead adviser across all nursing fields and the postgraduate programme. This role also included being the lead for mental health nursing student support. In 2014 I successfully completed an MSc in Leadership examining group supervision practices for postgraduate nursing students. In 2015 I undertook the role of final year lead for the pre-registration curriculum, broadening my experience in management and a special interest in employability strategies for newly qualified nurses. In 2018 i began an international lead role in delivering the mental health pre registration programme for the country of Gibraltar, The first of it's kind in their history. This is ongoing and has expanded my teaching innovation as well as international working practices.Of current interest are forwarding experiential and simulated learning as well as improving the practice education experience for students are further areas of interest. Forwarding improvements in young people's mental health care and for adults with serious mental health issues in the community also remain key clinical objectives with more of a focus on university populations and well-being in universities.
