About
I am an Associate Professor in Simulated Learning and Clinical Skills. I academically lead and manage the simulated learning and clinical skills team to develop and implement clinical skills and simulation education across the pre-registration nursing course. The modules are constantly developed in line with evaluations, changes in evidence based practice and NMC guidelines to ensure students have a highly valuable learning experience and can apply these skills into clinical practice.
I qualified as a Children nurse in 1995, I worked clinically in several London Hospitals and as a school nurse. During this time I developed an interest in teaching and learning which lead to be becoming a Clinical Tutor at the Florence Nightingale School of Nursing and Midwifery. This role evolved to me becoming the Director of the Chantler Simulation and Integrated Learning centre at KCL and then Lead in Clinical Skills and Simulation in Undergraduate medicine at KCL.
Having worked in the higher education sector for many years I have had the opportunity to develop, deliver and critically evaluate clinical skills and simulation curriculums for medical and nursing students. I have particular interests in peer facilitation, interprofessional (IP) learning and humanities. Current projects include the introduction of a peer facilitation scheme in the skills modules. IP teaching and learning with the Pharmacy department integrated into curriculum and working with other professions to further develop IP skills and simulation. Work with Dr Alex Mermikides and Terry Firth to integrate innovative performing arts workshops into our clinical skills modules, we now run workshops in all 3 years for adult nursing students. We have also formed a working group with practitioners from the following institutions: Guildhall School of Music & Drama, Kingston University, Kings College London, Health Action Training, Edinburgh Napier University and Public Health Wales.
