"I'm thrilled to be involved and that Hello World has been chosen. I hope it will inspire lots of great conversations."
Big Read 2023 author Hannah Fry
Join the conversation with Kingston University alumni, students and staff for this year's Big Read! The Big Read brings together Kingston's community through a shared reading experience and offers opportunities to learn together and enhance our understanding of the world.
This year's Kingston University Big Read book is Hello World: How to Be Human in the Age of the Machine by mathematician and TV presenter Hannah Fry. Hello World is a collection of real-life short stories about how there are algorithms and artificial intelligence hiding behind almost every aspect of our modern lives – and what that means for our society.
Dr Hannah Fry is a British mathematician, author, radio, and television presenter. She is currently Professor in the Mathematics of Cities in the Centre for Advanced Spatial Analysis at University College London.
The Big Read team will be hosting weekly discussions with a panel of academic and alumni special guests, exploring different themes from Hello World, such as data, justice, medicine, cars and music.
A special edition of Hello World is available to Kingston alumni for £10 (UK delivery) or £12 (international delivery). Please order your copy via the Big Read: Alumni Chapter order form below.
Delivery note: We hope you will receive your book within 10 working days of placing your order. If you have any queries, please get in touch with us at alumni@kingston.ac.uk.
