About

I have been a senior lecturer at Kingston University where I have been a faculty member since 2005, initially in the school of Art and Social science. I completed my undergraduate degree at London College of Printing and Wolverhampton University. 

I have undertaken numerous community engagement development posts for local strategy authorities, charities, and statutory voluntary sectors organisations from 1995 to the present. Example of the projects that I have engaged with are Citizens of Sanctuary, West Midlands Police Commissioner  on Gang Violence, Creative People, Creative Spaces and the National Trust 

My research interests lie in the area of marginalised innercity communities and the use of media and art as a tool of empowerment, from theory to design to implementation. I have also collaborated actively with researchers in several other disciplines of social science, criminology and arts development / funding institutions.

For thirty years, my experience as a freelance photographer and filmmaker has allowed me to manage numerous projects within the education, commercial and Voluntary settings. The criteria for many of these projects have been to teach or highlight social awareness through image production for diverse and often neglected inner-city communities within a safe and supportive environment. 

These media projects have created unparalleled opportunities for individuals from diverse cultural and national backgrounds to work together to explore media for social change and communication across preconceived boundaries.
