Research

My research has evolved alongside teaching and design practice and integrates branded spatial and product experiences that position sustainable design in their core. As a Research Fellow at The Body Shop Innovation Catalyst (TBSIC), I have adopted the work by Professor Jonathan Chapman on emotionally durable design which encourages an approach to design where consumers develop emotional connections to long lasting products as a counter to the prevalent disposable product culture. Working in this partnership, I scope, research, test and deliver sustainable design propositions that support The Body Shop in increasing resource efficiency, closing material loops and enhancing product, material and brand value. Shaped in close partnership, these projects take a variety of forms; from research about materials, processes and packaging, to lighting, store design and customer experience. There are beneficial outputs both for the university community, as they are exposed into new processes and real world application, and vice versa for The Body Shop which benefits from cutting edge innovative strategies that they can use in order to enrich their business model.
