Ellie Carless

About

I co-lead the Fashion & Costume pathway with Mark Anstee, on the Foundation Diploma in Art, Design & Media Practice. Whilst maintaining a specific end-goal of making garments for the body, we are interested in expanding the notions of what Fashion & Costume can be.

We think about the potential of clothing to serve emotional, communal, practical, ritual, communicative and spiritual functions. It's our aim to encourage an accessible and holistic approach to sustainability, that respects and celebrates the people and resources involved in the entire lifecycle of garments. All of this is underpinned by a strong belief in craftsmanship and a hands-on process of research and design.

My approach to education is strongly informed by my work in the fashion industry as a freelance designer, pattern cutter and machinist, for brands such as Molly Goddard, Richard Malone and Supriya Lele.
