Course description

This five-day course offers hands-on training in sound engineering and production inside Kingston School of Art's flagship Visconti Studio. Participants will receive functional training in professional production softwares Avid Pro Tools, Logic Pro and Ableton Live. You will learn how to operate hardware and software to record, edit, mix, master and remix music and sound across five days of intensive training. On completion of the five days, participants will be able to confidently operate industry-standard recording softwares to create and edit music and sound (DAW operations). You will be able to use professional hardware in a studio including outboard equipment (sound engineering) and be confident in setting up a recording studio for recording purposes (sound engineering & production). As well as providing invaluable studio expertise this course completion of this course can also be used to support applications to music technology courses at Kingston School of Art.

  • Day 1 
    Introduction to Avid Pro Tools: recording & editing audio
  • Day 2 
    Sound engineering in Visconti Studio
  • Day 3 
    Editing audio in Pro Tools and Logic Pro
  • Day 4 
    Creative sound design using Ableton Live.
  • Day 5 
    Mixing, mastering and remixing with Logic Pro and Ableton Live.

What to bring

A basic list will be sent to you a week in advance of the course start date. All other materials are provided by Kingston School of Art (KSA)

Course tutor

This course is taught by Rob Plummer the In-House Engineer for Visconti Studio, specialising in analogue and hybrid recording techniques. Rob has worked with artists such as Ralph McTell, Romances, Stuart Zender; and producers such as Tony Visconti, Ian Davenport, Chris Porter, and Chris Kimsey.

The standard course fee is indicated at the top of this page. If a course has any discounted fees available (e.g. for early-bird booking, alumni or students) these will be clearly outlined on the booking website.

As an educational institution fees for our open short courses do not attract VAT.
